Yes, it’s just about time for that most insane of challenges, NaPoWriMo: write a poem a day for the entire month of April.
Very simple: you can register with one of the many sites around (just Google NaPoWriMo 2010), or just do it below the radar on your own. The advantage of signing up is that you can participate more fully in the community side of the challenge – post a link to each day’s effort, and then visit the efforts of your fellow poets. And sites like ReadWritePoem will even offer you a new prompt for each day, so you don’t even have to think up a topic! (You can choose to follow the prompts or not – entirely up to you.)
I survived it last year, although I still have way too many of the drafts I created sitting still in my drafts file, waiting for some love and attention to turn them into Real Poems.
It’s definitely worth having a go, as long as you don’t have too many other things on during the month. I’ll be sitting it out this year (hence the badges), but I’d love to hear from any of you that are planning to submit to the maelstrom. Anybody?
ps – feel free to download one of the badges for your own website. (I know – visual arts are not my thing.)
YOU’RE ON! Thanks Joanna for both the challenge and the button. My poems tend to birth unpredictably – anything from the profound to the profoundly lighthearted. To visit the delivery suite, here’s the link http://www.gregoconnell.com/napowrimo-2010/
Yay! I look forward to seeing how you do. Good luck!
*settles goggles into place*, grease me up lunch lady Doris, I’m going in…
Marisa, I laughed so hard when I read this I nearly had a coffee accident …
Go to. Maybe I should put an unofficial NZ NaPoWriMo page up, with a counter for you and Greg to ring as you go …
Yes! And an Apu sound bite? http://www.entertonement.com/clips/lgckrydrtg–Magnificent-bastard
