Yep, it’s that time of year again – New Zealand’s longest-running poetry readings series is back. Starting in just eleven days (October 2nd) and giving some sort of meaning back to Wednesday nights, it’s time to prepare yourself for eight weeks of Poetry in Performance!
As usual, there will be an open mic session (with the audience vote deciding the winner each night), followed by guest readers. And it’s another interesting looking lineup this year too, with a good mix of local and exotic poets:
October 2nd: Justine de Spa, Sue Wootton, and Nick Williamson
October 9th: Peter Bland, Phoebe Wright, and Teoti Jardine
October 16th: Sarah Jane Barnett, John Pule, and John O’Connor
October 23rd: Michele Amas, Ben Brown, and Sarah Amazinnia
October 30th: Harry Rickets, Helen Jacobs, and James Norcliffe
November 6th: Riemke Ensing, Jeffrey Paparoa Holman, and Rodney Foster
November 13th: Reihana Robinson, and Poets from the Hagley Writers Institute
November 20th: the best of the season’s Open Mic readers.
And apparently there will also be a special extra session on November 27th, to celebrate the late Sarah Broom (details t.b.a.).
The venue is once again the CPIT Students’ Association Hall at 5 Madras St; the evening runs from 6.30 pm to around 8.30 pm; and the admission cost is a measly $5. And for those of you who would like to download your own copy of the updated poster, click this link!
