NaPoWriMo Quarantine Edition – Exercise 4

Today’s task is to write a list poem of at least sixteen lines on the theme of the things that support you. How you interpret “support” is up to you. Physically. Emotionally. Economically. Socially. Technical support. Architectural supports. However you want to take it.

The key here is to use lots of really specific detail. Try to use multiple senses, not just sight, and be selective in what you show us. Ideally the details will build up into a cohesive whole, even though the poem is phrased as items on a list – by the end, we should have some idea of what sort of person this list belongs to, and the things that matter to them. (Robin Robertson is superb at this – try “At Dusk” from A Painted Field for starters.)

Optional Extra: why not go all-in for the fours, and make your poem four stanzas of four lines each, with four strong stresses per line …
